I recommend a great program hosted by the Harvard Program on Negotiation featuring David Hoffman and Helen Winter called “Follow the Science: Proven Strategies for Counteracting Bias.” The recorded video of the program can be found here: https://www.pon.harvard.edu/events/pon-live-follow-the-science/ The article citing all the studies and narrative from the program can be found here: https://www.hnlr.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/22/Follow-the-Science_Hoffman-and-Winter.pdf
I can’t recommend the program and article enough as it is solution-based (7 ways to counteract bias), to the point (1 hour without extraneous materials), scholarly (see the law review article), and accessible (free and short program).
In a too-short a summary: we all have biases from our experiences in the world, and we can substantially reduce them by (1) becoming aware of our biases, (2) are motivated to counteract our biases, (3) know individual instances of people not in our known group, (4) seek to empathize with and understand the perspective of those not in our group, (5) come into contact with those not in our group, (6) are trained to notice stereotypes arising from biases, and (7) are mindful about the parts of us that are biased. Good food for thought whether we are in a conflict or not.
